about
Last August, I was neck deep in slump paste, so my brilliant wife Brittney suggested that I work on music every day for a month. For some reason, I took that as a challenge to FINISH a piece of music every day for a month. "Day-Old Balloons" was the first of these pieces, and despite the fact that my rust is audible throughout, I love it. The too-hot, probably too-simple beats are the sound of throwing the notion of retirement down a flight of stairs. The sneaky synth bass line sounds like it's scaling a cliff from which it's been thrown. And the metallic sound that kicks the whole thing off isn't just an announcement. It's a promise. Actually, if Brittney hadn't been in charge of naming the track, I probably would've called it "Promise" or something just as boring. Thankfully, that's not the way things went.
The audio that ties this track to the next is taken from an episode of the Todd Glass Podcast in which Todd responded (cryptically, vaguely, and repeatedly) to a letter he received from Brittney. It's pretty clear that no one in the studio knew who or what the fuck he was talking about, and I love that. That being said, I hope Todd doesn't mind me appropriating his secret messages to my wife. They make killer segues.
lyrics
What the fuck were you doing over there?
I never heard so much noise in my entire life!
Okay?
So, with that in mind,
some reverb please!
...And I forgot what I was doing.
Oh! Hold on.
Brittney, you're gonna be fine!
Where's my magic marker?
I wanna erase that so I know I took care of Brittney.
Brittney, you're gonna be fine.
Look at you!
Look at you, Brittney,
you son of a bitch.
Come on, you know...
Brittney, things are gonna be just good.
Uh...
